Meet your host:

Nick Finzer

Welcome! I’m so glad you’re here, and I really hope that you can join us for JTBN Day 2025! I started this event to shine a light on the amazing community of Jazz Trombonists found around the world, and right here at UNT!

The JTBN Day serves to connect our Jazz Trombone Studio with the best and brightest young artists, and legends of our instrument. It gives our students and community the chance to interact in a fun environment.

I started the International Jazz Trombone Competition to bring the focus to well-deserving young artists who are trying to make a name for themselves on the International Jazz Scene. Historically, the trombone has been under-represented at some of the biggest jazz competitions, and I wanted to create an opportunity that would allow those talented young artists to “display their wares” as Art Blakey used to say!

We can’t wait to welcome you to UNT on February 8th!

Don’t forget to RSVP and download you parts for the Mass Choir! It will be such a blast!!!
